Meal Maker Ground Beef
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 20 minutes + 1 hour refrigeration
- Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
- Yield: Makes about 5 cups 1x
Ingredients
2 lb (1 kg) Extra-Lean or Lean Ground Beef
2 onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Cook beef over medium-high heat in a large skillet or pot, stirring often and using back of spoon to break up meat into small chunks, for about 8 to 10 minutes or until beef is browned and thoroughly cooked. Scrape into a colander and drain off excess liquid; return beef to skillet.
- Return skillet with beef to medium heat. Add onions and garlic; season with salt and pepper to your taste. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are softened.
- Spread mixture evenly across a parchment paper-lined rimmed baking sheet. Refrigerate for about 1 hour or until cold.
- Scoop meal-sized portions into airtight containers. Refrigerate for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. (Note: you can use portions of the mix right away if you wish; use hot and refrigerate the extras to package and store.)
Notes
A large skillet helps the beef brown more evenly because the liquid evaporates more quickly. If you’re using a large pot with tall sides, you may need to cook the beef a little longer until it browns.
Be sure to write the date you cooked the Meal Maker Ground Beef on each container before freezing.
Thaw beef mix in the container in refrigerator overnight or in the microwave on MEDIUM (50%) power or DEFROST setting before using in recipes.
